New York City it is the most densely populated city in the United States of America. As a leading global city, New York is a powerful influence over international commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment. As the home of the United Nations headquarters, it is also an important location for international affairs. The city has an estimated population of 8.3 million individuals with a land area of 205 square miles.  

                            New York was founded as a commercial trading post in 1624 by the Dutch in 1624, originally under the name New Amsterdam until 1624. It was the capitol of the United States of America from 1785 to 1790. On September 11, 2001, New York was subject of a terrorist attack. The attack was directed at the World Trade Center towers, also known as the Twin Towers. As of today, there is a new World Trade Center under construction, nick named the Freedom Tower.  

                            The city of New York has always been influential in the world’s art an entertainment. The city was a center of Jazz in the 1940’s, in the 1950’s, had given birth to a form of art called “abstract expressionism”.  The city is also the birth place of hip hop, which saw growth from the 1970’s to the 1990’s, and is now one of the more popular forms of music in modern times. The city is home to some of the world’s most successful Broadway theaters with roughly 40 theaters that seat more that 500 people.
